U is for Uzume (Japanese Pantheon) #AtoZChallenge

We’re heading to the orient for today’s A to Z Blog Challenge. Uzume is the Japanese Shinto Goddess of Joy and Happiness and Good Health, known as the daughter of heaven and as heaven’s forthright female (I had to smile at that one). The water from Uzume’s stream delivers good health to those who drink of it. She earned her fame from using dance (her name means whirling) and laughter to entice the sun god, Amaterasu, out of her cave. When Amaterasu hid herself there, it cloaked the world in darkness and infertility.
