Welcome to the Alpha Male Blog Hop. Starting today and ending on Oct 22nd, over 200 Authors and Bloggers will share their favorite things about those sexy men we know and love.
What makes an alpha male so compelling? Why can’t we get enough of them? Here’s my list of must haves in an alpha.
- A good alpha is damaged but revived by love.
- Powerful and driven by adrenaline.
- He embraces risk but not foolhardiness.
- A hunter, once he catches the scent of his woman, he puts down his stake, declares ownership and never lets go.
- Supremely confident, he reveres and respects the power of his woman, wanting her to be all she can be.
- Fierce and gentle, in bed and out.
That’s how I like to read him… favorites include John Matthew in J.R. Ward’s Brotherhood of the Black Dagger, Bones in Jeaniene Frost’s Kat and Bones series and Kane Tyler and Seth Lawrence in Lora Leigh’s Breed Series…and that’s how I like to write him. Cullen McMahan, the shifter in my paranormal romance Fires of Justice is all that and a bag of chips.
On my blog, one lucky commenter will win one ecopy of my book Fires of Justice. I’m not going to ask you to tell me your favorite alpha. Instead, I want to know what characteristics in the heroine bring out the best in an alpha. Here’s my take–bravery and/or fearlessness. Alpha’s may be protective, but they respect courage and respond to women who give as good as they get. Note all my favorite males have seriously kickass ladies. What do you think? Don’t forget to leave your e-mail.
But that’s not all….
The blog hop has THREE grand prizes. You as a reader can go to EACH blog and comment with your email address and be entered to win. Yep, you can enter over 200 times! Here’s the link to the other blogs.
Now what are those prizes?
3rd Grand Prize: The following Swag Pack!
Note : My give away and the 1st and 2nd grand prizes are international. The Swag Pack is not.
Good Luck.
Sabrina
Fires of Justice Book Blurb
Always read the fine print when swearing an eternal oath to gods and guardians…
Beholden by the sacred vows of her coven, fire witch Calista Reid agrees to temporarily mate with shifter Cullen McMahan to fulfill a mission assigned by the guardians. When tall, dark and damaged arrives on her doorstep, generating enough heat to scorch a fire witch, Calista finds herself drawn to his battle-hardened body and broken soul. His pain speaks to her own deep-rooted isolation and the intensity of his hunger slakes her passion like no other.
Cullen, scarred by a past that left him an indentured soldier to the guardians, resents yet another hump-on-command assignment…until he encounters the compassionate, fearless, incendiary redhead who detonates his body and reawakens the emotions sacrifice and loss had suppressed. But Cullen harbors a terrible secret—one that reaches back into Calista’s troubled childhood and threatens the foundation of their growing bond.

I love alpha males because they take charge, kick ass and look great while doing it! Just their commanding presence in a scene gives me the chills! I can’t just pick one so my favorite alpha males are Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series and Barrons from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. Both are similar and different in so many ways but have the same stubbornness and raw animal magnetism that defines them as alphas.
Thanks for the awesome hope and for the chance to win!
ehaney578 at aol dot com
Hi Elizabeth. Looks like we have Bones in common in our list of favorites. One of the reasons I like him is that is clear on his feelings, comfortable with them and holds on to them. Thanks for dropping.
I love an alpha hero who isn’t afraid of a strong female. My favorite alphas are Linda Howards’ Mackenzies…yummy. And Cherise Sinclair’s Doms from her Shadowlands series.
Qwillia
email: qwilliarain AT gmail DOT com
We are so on the same page Qwillia. I love heroes who are not only not afraid of strong females but nurture their strengths and want them to go as strong as they can be.
Hi Sabrina,
Yes, I like nurturing strong females…MS
I love my males to be alpha. Makes the reading so much more fun.
It most certainly does. Thanks for stopping by Debra.
I think the alpha male needs a female that will stand up to him when it is necessary and let him be his big ole protective self when he needs it. Carin mawmom at gmail dot com
That’s key Carin. Know when hold em and know when to fold em, but the woman is leading there in a way. Great insight. Thanks for the visit.
Love the strength of the Alphas– but they do need a kick ass girl to keep them in line!
modularmates(at)comcast(dot)net
Yes, they certainly do. Its the sparks between equals that makes it so much fun. Thanks for dropping by Lisa.
Alpha males make great heroes. They take charge, demand and really, really protect. One of my favorite is Bones from the Night Huntres series. When he wants something he doesn’t let go. So glad he has Cat!
I love the Cat and Bones combo myself and that stick-to-it-ness Bones displays is one of the things I love about him too.
Caring & Go get them attitude (willingness to go above & beyond, not letting anything or anyone get the way) makes a great Alpha..
Call me sappy or whatever when I read about and the alpha gets slightly emotional (either irked off or emotionally exposing them… not talking about crying…) that is an additional bonus cause men can be elusive to thier true feelings
I don’t think you’re sappy at all. I think a good alpha is strong enough to be true to their emotions and know it makes him more not less. Thanks for dropping by Beckey.
I love alpha males in real life and in books. Alpha males are more than just having a lot of cockiness (no pun intended) or “swagger.” My favorite type of fictional alpha male is definitely the cowboy. And when I think of the perfect heroine to an alpha male, I think of someone like Lois from Lois & Clark or Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Martha Jones from Doctor Who. They are smart, tough, and not afraid to go after what they want be it love, a story, or a villain. They keep their friends as close to them as they do their families, and go out of their ways to protect them
I love your description of heroines. And Martha Jones is hands down my favorite, a doctor in her own right, she stole the show at times. Given my love for the doctor, no easy feat. Thanks for dropping by.
She would have to be strong emotionally because she would have to stand her ground with her alpha until he realizes he needs to listen to her.
Yes, that’s so spot on. They drive each other to be better, stronger, faster. A great heroine really brings out the alpha’s best and most hidden strengths. Glad you could visit.
It looks amazing!!! Can’t wait to read!
angelarosebooks@yahoo.com
I’m so glad you like it. I’m glad you stopped by. Hope you are having fun on the hop.
The more damaged the male the more I tend to love them. Its so nice to read how a average woman can save the man of her dreams
I couldn’t agree more. The more damaged, the more that they appeal to me for the same reason.
i think they need a heroine that will stand up to them and yet at the same time respect that they are who they are and hard headed is a usually trait for them
meandi09@Yahoo.com
So true Jennifer. Don’t we all need a partner/spouse/significant other who stand up to us and respect us for who we are. I love how when we think about alphas are and what they need, we also answer questions about what’s important about relationships. Thanks for visiting.
i love an alpha male who has confidence in them and a little bit of edge and swag doesnt hurt angelwolfmystic@yahoo.com
Couldn’t agree more, a little edgy verging on bad boy always increases the appeal.
I love an alpha males possessiveness yet they also are tender.
Yvette
yratpatrol@aol.com
You are so spot on. That ability to be possessive yet tender, fierce yet gentle, kick the crap out of the villain yet touch a baby or a lover with reverence and awe is what makes them so irresistable.
I think that the heroine’s that bring out the best in the alphas tend to be spontaneous, headstrong, and a little foolhardy.
phaedracamille@gmail.com
Headstrong and a little foolhardy, great observation. Maybe you have to be to take on an alpha.
I think alphas in fiction usually don’t respond well to equally strong, dominant women – I think they’d prefer submissive but sensible girls. (That’s a shame, actually.)
Rachel
oceanrebel333 (at) gmail (dot) com
Hi Rachel. It is a shame really and that’s why I write the stories I do, because I like a pairing of strong man and strong woman. I think they drive each other to be better. Thanks for dropping by.
Love reading about the alpha who is confident and who will do anything for the one he loves.
Some of my favorites are the Doms from the Shadowlands series.
skpetal at hotmail dot com
That going to extremes for the one he loves gets me every time too. Thanks for visiting,
Hi Sabrina!! Cullen sounds so hot! Love it. Those Alphas are so sexy…just want them to throw me down and teach me some tricks!! Happy hopping
Hi Rosanna. Thanks for visiting and LOL. Oh, so very, very true. Hope you are enjoying the hop.
I like your question, yes I think the female needs to be kick ass as well as understanding to be able to handle these rough and tough men in their lives.
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
Thanks Donna. Its a question I ask myself so I really want to hear how others think about it. I think the woman need the kickass and the understanding to handle the alphas, its what makes them more interesting, but also brings out what women really bring to a relationship–balance, versatility, strengths in all its straightforward and nuanced forms.
My favorite characteristic in a heroine that brings out the best in an alpha is supportiveness.
j.lennidorner AT facebook DOT com
Good one. The relationship would never work with out it. Thanks for visiting me on the hop.
I think the heroine needs to be able to pull the alpha back when he is going too far and also sometimes provide the softness he needs in his life for balance.
Thanks for having the giveaway and participating in the hop!
dmr8888 at yahoo dot com
HI Alicia. Great observations. Balance is key, especially between strength and gentleness. Hope you are enjoying the hop.
Oh I have a thing for Bones also..love the dynamic between their relationship.
a heroine needs to be strong, but also keep the alpha in check when needed.
Thanks for the hoppin fun !
~Kym
flwrs4ever(at)yahoo(dot)com
Bones and Kat are great, although it often feels like he’s keeping her in check, which is one of the reasons I like Bones so much. They balance each other and help the other grow.
Let’s all kick ass. Happy Hopping.
r.d1@myfairpoint.net
Yes lets. Enjoy the hop and thanks for dropping by.
Being strong and protective. Thanks for the chance to win!
natasha_donohoo_8 at hotmail dot com
Yes, for both the man and the woman. Thanks for visiting.
Sabrina, kickass heroines get together well with alphas. They have their own will and aren’t afraid to show it.
Spot on Tessa. That’s one of the reasons I like Alphas, because I love to watch them tangle with strong willed heroines, making them each stronger, deeper and more loving. Hope you are enjoying the hop.
they should be emotionally strong and just as take-charge as their Alphas. It makes for great stories! mygirls01@yahoo.com
You are so right Christina. When they are both strong, take-charge kind of people the best stories absolutely emerge. Thanks for dropping by.
The main reason I love them is that they’re confident
No matter how difficult their situation is, they’re always confident – and I wish I found a man with at least half of that alpha male confident!

Thank you for the giveaway!
creature-in-night@hotmail.com
So true, they have more confidence than the average guy, and why they are so appealing. I must admit I do like it when they show vulnerability in stories. By doing so really reveals their self confidence.
Why I love Alpha Males is no real surprise! The perfect Alpha Male for me could be a Vampire, a Scottish Laird, an English Rogue/Gentleman, a Werewolf or Shape-shifter, or a Knight. He’s the rogue who thinks he can’t be reformed into a gentleman. He’s the rough and scarred Scottish laird that has a heart of gold. He’s the werewolf or shape-shifter that needs to heal an aching heart because it took him years to find his true mate. He’s the vampire who has waited decades for that special someone’s blood to sing to him and wake him up. And he’s the knight who can defeat the enemy with a quick swing of his sword, but can’t see the love in front of his face. My Alpha Male has eyes that can see into your soul and are as blue as the sea, or as black as a storm. He’s tall and brooding. His heart can enfold you into its grasp and make you fall in love when he gives it to you freely and completely. He is protective and passionate. In the end he is the one that makes your heart jump and butterflies fly in your stomach, and still kiss you until your legs melt!
Angelheart618@gmail.com
Amazing and thoughtful answer Tammy. You nailed why we all love alphas. I think we can all see that passion through your summary. Thanks for dropping by and sharing it.
I think if the heroine is strong and fearless at times but also soft and plays the damsel in distress, it’s just going to drive the Alpha nuts with pride and want!
Then you add a snarky sense of humor/cockiness from the Alpha and you have that perfect heroine who can dish that $hit out right back at him? LOVE IT!!
Thanks so much,
Sebrina_Cassity at yahoo dot com
Hi Sebrina (love the spelling of your beautiful name). Yes that snarky sense makes it such a fun ride. Thanks for visiting.
Thank you for the wonderful post and the giveaway! Alpha Males are my absolute favorites! They’re strong, confident, protective, sometimes a bit bossy, and of cource sexy!
verusbognar (at) gmail (dot) com
Thank you for stopping my and sharing why you like alphas. Hope you are enjoying the blog tour.
The heroine needs to have compassion and isn’t afraid to challenge the alpha specially if she’s passionate about something.
bituin76 AT hotmail DOT com
That will to challenge on the part of the heroine always leads to great sparks between the pair. Thanks for visiting.
I think the heroine needs to stand toe to toe with an alpha and be able to give as well as receive. I do not like the heroines that need to be protected and catered to all the time (IE: Ana in 50 shades-don’t get me started on her!) although sometimes I think it is too hard for a true alpha to be with a woman that stands up against him. While fire and passion are good, too much isn’t. Thanks for being part of the blog.
Best wishes,
Marlena
charmedpoms@yahoo.com
That’s the reason I won’t read 50 Shades. Those that stand toe-to-toe as equals are so much more fun, but both do need a gentle side to make it wok. Thanks for stopping by.
Lora Leigh’s Breeds are some of my favorite alpha heros! Especially Mercury and Jonas! What I love about alpha heros are the strength, protectiveness and confidence they have and their ability to let those they love be the stronger one when they need to. Thanks for the giveaway!
suz2(at)cox(dot)net
Lora Leigh does do a good alpha male. I also like Cabal St. Lawrence. I am waiting to see the male she creates for Cassie.
My alphas have to be intelligent, as well a protective. Like Master Adam from Masters At Arms.
rfg dot wwe at gmail dot com
I love em smart too. Thanks for dropping by Lynne.
I love the confidence and protective nature of an alpha!
Thanks for the chance to win!
sqwalker2@gmail.com
The protective nature works for me too. Thanks for dropping by Liese.
Love a wounded hero
sugerlady@aol.com
Me too and watching love heal the wounds. Thanks for dropping by Tamara.
I love alpha males and how strong, loyal and protective they are.
Its their strength that is just so appealing. Glad you could visit Joy.
I definitely think alpha males need strong women. Women who are brave and intelligent and can stand up to them.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Jyl22075 at gmail.com
Its fun to watch the woman give as good as she gets intellectually and emotionally. Hope you are enjoying the blog hop.
I think the best are the ones who are brave and can take a caring touch to her alphas moods~ it takes a certain type of woman to not crumble and become broken over the way an alpha sometimes acts and to realize that’s just how he expresses himself. Refreshing to see a different question! Thank you for the hop
MostlyMisha[at]gmail[dot]com
Thanks Misha. I asked it because I have personally found that the stronger the woman, the more appealing I have found the men. You’re right on. It does take a certain kind of woman and when a story nails her just right, the man just really shines, cause he has to if he wants her. Thanks for dropping by.
Great hop!
Thanks for the chance!
bacchus76 at myself dot com
Thanks for visiting Donna. I hope you are enjoying the hop.
Thanks for being a part of the blog hop. i love how powerful, fierce and passionate alpha males can be.
i totally want to read your books
raynekitten@gmail.com
Hi Traci. I love em fierce and passionate too. When you read it, come back and let me know what you think. Thanks for visiting.
[...] Alpha Male Blog Tour is two posts below or you can click the name to get immediately into the comments section. Thanks [...]
To me she should be self sufficient and able to take care of herself (at least in most situations), she should be strong willed, have her own opinions, and be able to stand up to him. An alpha doesn’t need a wimpy woman he needs one who is his equal
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
cassandrahicks1989@yahoo.com
You rock Cassandra. Alpha does not need a wimpy woman. An equal makes the banter and relationship so much more interesting. Thanks for stopping by.
I love alphas! Strong, Sexy and Smart should describe both Alpha and his lady! She needs more emotional strength than physical and she should believe she is sexy because all women are and smart because she needs to hold her own in a battle of brains. Alphas want a lady they can talk to about anything.
awesome blog hop!
susanmplatt AT hotmail DOT com
Thanks Susan. Great answer. I love how you note that she is sexy, can hold oner own intellectually and they can talk about anything.
i love alpha males! the confidence and protectiveness, about them!
thanks for joining the hop!
miriam.whitewolf@gmail.com
Thanks for visiting Miriam. I hope you are enjoying the hop.
Alpha males are the best….strong, independent, fiercely protective, but on the inside they are nothing but a big ol’ teddy bear! I love the way their mouths talk filthy, but their eyes portray their sensitive sweet. They can be rough and tough in the bedroom, but still have the gentle caress of an attentive and protective lover. It’s all in the heart…..alpha males are the best!
Jack Gordon from Liz Crowe’s REALTOR series rocks!
Thanks for participating in the hop!

Me too. Thanks for visiting. I hope you are enjoying the hop.
Great question! I think an Alpha would want to have a strong woman as well – not necessarily someone who will challenge him at every turn, but someone who is brave and confident – and someone who brings out the softer side in him (and maybe only she sees it). Thanks for being in the hop!
jochibi AT yahoo DOT com
Great answer. Thanks for dropping by. Hope you are having a great time on the hop.
An alpha would need a woman that is also strong and can stand up to him when it’s necessary but she would also need to be able to bring out that gentler side of him.
mythic021@gmail.com
Thanks Vanessa. Glad you could stop by.
The heroine needs to be strong, intelligent, and able to give the alpha as good as she gets.
marlenebreakfield(at)yahoo(dot)com
So right Marlene. Thanks for visiting. Hope you enjoyed the blog hop.
