I award the V for kick-ass woman in sci and fantasy to…drum roll please… Velma Dinkley, the orange-clad Ms. Braniac we know and love from Scooby-Doo.
Why you ask?
Because she was, and remains, a good role model for young girls. Velma feared nothing. She asked questions first, rushed into the room with the ghost first and usually decoded the mystery. She was the driving force behind the team of mystery solving teens, and the most under appreciated. This is my chance to give Velma a great big and well-deserved shout out. For being the brainy one and proud of it. Many of us can relate.

I agree… she’s even funnier and smarter in the new Scooby movies my girls watch. IN fact, Daphne even gets an upgrade from less ditzy red head to more of a chick who wants to take care of herself.
I like the live SD films, they add a different take but the cartoons still were a permanent feature of my childhood.
